If your solar system feels a little slower than it used to, dirt is often the reason. In Gauteng the winter months are dry and dusty, and by August most roofs have a fine brown film on everything.
Look at where you live
Homes near busy roads, building sites or open veld collect dust quickly. Trees bring leaves, pollen and birds. If either applies to you, plan on a clean every three to four months. Homes in quieter, greener suburbs can often go six months.
Check after the dry season
Late winter, before the first rains, is a smart time to book a clean. The first storms do rinse panels a little, but they also leave muddy streaks where dust and water mix.
Do not use a pressure washer
High pressure water can force its way past seals and damage the frame. Hard brushes and household detergents can scratch the coating on the glass. Soft brushes and clean water do the job safely.
Safety first
Roof work is risky, especially on old tiles. If you would rather not climb up there, give us a call. We will clean the panels, check for obvious damage and send you photos once we are done.
