Many Johannesburg homes have big glass sliding doors that face the street or the neighbours. They are great for light and terrible for privacy. Curtains fix one problem and bring the other one back.
Bathrooms and en-suites
This is where most people start. A full frosted film gives total privacy while still letting daylight in, so you do not need a light on in the morning.
Sliding doors and entrances
A decorative pattern, like the reed design in the photo above, looks good and stops people walking into the glass. It also hides the inside of the house from anyone at the gate.
Home offices
A frosted band at seated eye level blocks the view from outside without making the room feel closed in.
It is not permanent
Good quality film can be removed later without damaging the glass. That makes it a sensible option for tenants too, as long as your landlord agrees.
